PEARLS OF WISDOM:

This report is being sent to you on New Year's Eve day. Tonight, the Fairfax County Police Department will be increasing their vigilance around the County, looking for drivers that are under the influence of alcohol. Franconia District had a checkpoint in force last night. West Springfield District will have one tonight. If you do not want to spend New Year's Day in jail, Do Not Drink And Drive. You may think you can get away with it, but there are lots of police on the roads, who, if they catch you, will give you a lot of time to think about it. If you are under the influence, please call the Washington Area Sober Ride Program for a free ride home, if you are going 50 miles or less. The number is:

1-800-200-TAXI. That is 1-800-200-8294.

Save a life - it might be your own!

REMINDER:

2005 begins tomorrow. You should begin NOW to think 2005, and, perhaps, put that 2005 date on some of your checks, so you will not be giving outdated checks to your merchants. Some banks let the error slide during the first month of the year, but not ALL of them. Better to be safe than have a check bounce. It will save you and the merchant money in the end.

CAC:

The next CAC meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, January 19, 2005, at the Franconia Government Center in the public meeting room. Mark your calendars and be sure to attend. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, pre-meeting social period begins at 7:00pm.

MODIP:

The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator’s Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next MODIP class will be held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, January 8, 2005, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.
