Weekly Incident Summary Report
November 20-26, 2003
IMPERSONATION OF A POLICE OFFICER:
A man identified himself as a police officer to get a lower rate on a hotel room and was subsequently arrested. The incident occurred at the Red Roof Inn, located at 6868 Springfield Boulevard in the Springfield area. Mohamed A. Awl, 24, walked into the hotel about 3:20 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, and showed a gold badge to the front desk clerk. Awl claimed to be a Fairfax County Police Officer, working on a narcotics investigation in the area, and requested the lowest hotel rate he could get. After paying cash, Awl went to the room he was given and the desk clerk called police to verify Awls identity. Officers determined Awl was not a police officer and he was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer and larceny by false pretense. He was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
