The next CAC meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, November 17th, 2004 at the Franconia Government Center in the public meeting room. Mark your calendars and be sure to attend. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, pre-meeting social period begins at 7:00pm.


The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator’s Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next MODIP class is being held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on November13, 2004, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.

Dana Avenue, 6200 Block: On Sunday, October 31, around 6:30 p.m., a 23-year-old Springfield area woman was robbed of cash and her purse which contained various personal items. The victim had just got off the bus when she was approached by a man who demanded money. The suspect was described as white about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed about 150 pounds. There were no reported injuries.

Hillary Street, 7200 Block: On Tuesday, November 2, around 12:15 a.m., a 29-year-old Alexandria area man was robbed of his wallet by three men. The victim was talking on his cellular telephone when he was punched from behind and pushed down to the ground by the suspects. The suspects then stole his wallet and fled on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries to his face but refused rescue. All of the suspects were described as black, wearing dark clothing, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed about 200 pounds.

Richmond Highway/Armistead Road: A 37-year-old Washington DC, homeless man was robbed at gunpoint. On Monday, November 1, about 6:20 p.m., the victim accepted a ride from a man he had just met. They went to conduct business at a local pawnshop in the Hybla Valley area and when the two men went there, they were denied their transaction. The two men got back into the suspect’s car at which time the suspect pointed a gun and attempted to rob the victim; however, he had no money. The suspect drove the victim to Richmond Highway and Armistead Road where the victim was free to leave unharmed. The suspect was described as a clean shaven white man, in his 40s, standing 6 feet tall, about 215 pounds, with short, straight, brown hair and brown eyes. At the time of the incident he was wearing a white-collar dress shirt and blue jeans.

Rose Hill Drive, 6200 Block: A 16-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint and was assaulted in the process. On Monday, November 1, about 9:10 p.m., the victim was walking in front of the Rose Hill Library, located at 6209 Rose Hill Drive in the Rose Hill area, when two men approached him. One suspect displayed a knife and both suspects began demanding money from the boy. The suspect with the knife cut the victim, however, rescue was refused. The two men ran toward the area of Franconia Road. The two suspects were described as Hispanic and in their 20s. The first suspect was 5 feet 5 inches tall, about 160 pounds, with straight black hair and brown eyes. He wore a blue shirt and grey sweatpants. The second suspect was described as 6 feet tall, about 200 pounds wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt.
