Mature Operators Driver Improvement Program (MODIP):
The Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department will be offering Virginia residents 55 and older enrollment in the Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour class covers safe driving information for mature drivers. The course is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month.
The next MODIP class is being held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on Saturday, November 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10 per person for books and materials.
Mark your calendars! The next CAC meeting will be on Wednesday, October 15. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm, social period begins at 7:00 pm in the FCPD ROLL-CALL ROOM (the meeting room is being used for absentee balloting in the November election) of the Franconia Government Center.
The Franconia District station conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint on South Van Dorn Street on Thursday, October 23-24, between 10pm and 2am. 409 cars passed through the checkpoint, and your diligent FCPD officers made 5 arrests for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Let's hear it for the GOOD GUYS!

ROBBERY / SEXUAL ASSAULT:
A 16-year-old Springfield area girl was robbed and sexually assaulted on October 17, 2003 about 10:50 P.M. In the 7200 block of Monticello Boulevard in the Springfield area. The victim was walking home from the bus stop when she was approached by a man who produced a knife and demanded money. The suspect kissed the victim and fondled her. He then fled the area with jewelry from the victim. She was not injured. He was described as white, in his 20s, about five feet tall and weighing 145 pounds. He had brown hair and brown eyes and was wearing a white T-shirt with black pants.LARCENIES
