Mature Operators Driver Improvement Program (MODIP)

The Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department will be offering Virginia residents 55 and older enrollment in the Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour class covers safe driving information for mature drivers. The course is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month.

The next MODIP class is being held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on Saturday, October 11, 2003, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A subsequent seminar is scheduled for November 8, 2003. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10 per person for books and materials.

Mark your calendars! The next CAC meeting will be on Wednesday, October 15. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm, social period begins at 7:00 pm in the FCPD Roll-Call Room (the meeting room is being used for absentee balloting in the November election) of the Franconia Government Center.

Weekly Incident Summary Report
September 25 -October 1, 2003

MISSING ADULT:

A 71-year-old Alexandria area man is still missing and police are asking for help finding him. At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, Holland Edmunds walked away from his Fordson Road residence and has not been seen since. Edmunds suffers from dementia and has symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Edmunds also suffers from diabetes and Parkinson’s disease and requires medication for both. He frequents the Gum Springs area of Alexandria and may be heading toward Halifax, Virginia. In the past, Edmunds has been found walking south along Richmond Highway. Edmunds is described as black, five feet five inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with salt and pepper hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing dark blue coveralls. Anyone who has seen Edmunds is asked to call police at (703) 691-2131.

BIAS CRIME:

A letter of suspicious nature was delivered to Hayfield Secondary School, located at 7630 Telegraph Road, on Wednesday September 24. The letter contained racially motivated statements; however, it did not threaten the school, its students or faculty.
