CAC:

Our next CAC meeting will be held at the Lee District Government Center on Franconia Road on Wednesday evening, October 19, 2005, in the big meeting room.  A Social Period begins at 7pm, with the General Meeting beginning at 7:30pm.

MODIP:

The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator’s Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers.  Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are normally held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next seminars are scheduled at the Franconia District Station, located at 6121 Franconia Road, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on October 8, and November 12, 2005. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.

ROBBERY

Franconia Road, 5200 Block: A bank robbery occurred in the Franconia area. On Monday, September 26 around 4 p.m., a man entered BB&T bank located at 5203 Franconia Road and displayed a handgun. The suspect demanded money, the tellers gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and he fled. A dye pack exploded as the man fled and he left some of the cash near the bank. Nobody was injured. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or black man with a light complexion, between 20 and 30-years-old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed approximately 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue and white plaid shirt, sunglasses and a black baseball cap.

Ben Franklin Road, 6800 Block: Police are investigating a home invasion robbery in the Springfield area. On Sunday, September 25 around 1 a.m., the residents of a home in the 6800 block of Ben Franklin Road were awakened by three men in their home with handguns. The three suspects gained entry into the residence, tied up the three victims and ransacked the home. They took cash and property from the victims and fled in an unknown direction. The victims were able to free themselves and called police. No one was injured in the incident. The investigation is ongoing. The first suspect was described as white, in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He had an athletic build, blue eyes and blond hair. The other two suspects were described as black, in their 20s, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and 200 pounds. They both had an athletic build as well. All three suspects were wearing dark clothing and masks.
