DEPARTMENTAL AWARD

The Fairfax County Police Dept continues to initiate new programs to improve enforcement efforts and educate the public Our latest efforts include increasing awareness of child passenger safety, impaired driving, speed awareness and underage alcohol prevention. On August 11, 2003, The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police recognized the FCPD's continuing education and enforcement efforts with the Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Award. Additionally, FCPD was awarded the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police President’s Award, recognizing the department for its speed awareness program.

The speed awareness program encompasses multiple aspects of education and enforcement, including the "Smooth Operator" program, the Fairfax County Parkway campaign and the racing interdiction program. The FCPD is very proud of these awards and the hard work that went into these achievements.

Mark your calendars! The next CAC meeting will be on Wednesday, October 15. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm, social period begins at 7:00 pm in the FCPD Roll-Call Room (the meeting room is being used for absentee balloting in the November election) of the Franconia Government Center.

September 18-24, 2003

ROBBERY

King Centre Drive at South Van Dorn Street A 14-year-old Franconia area boy was riding his bicycle home after a school event at Edison High School when he was robbed. The incident occurred on September 24 at about 5:30 p.m., as the victim rode his bicycle through a grassy area behind the Kohl’s department store. Four males jumped out of the grass, attacked the victim and took two necklaces he was wearing. The suspects attempted to take the victim’s bicycle, but he was able to maintain control of it and rode home to call police. The suspects were described as black and 17 years old. The suspects all wore dark clothing and black ski masks.

LARCENIES:

Ashlawn Court, 6500 Block Bicycle reported stolen.
Backlick Road, 6600 Block Car engine taken from business.
Bonniemill Lane, 7100 Block Patron failed to pay cab fare.
Constance Drive, 6800 Block Tools taken from parked vehicle.
Edsall Road, 6400 Block Stereo taken from parked vehicle.
Elmwood Drive, 3400 Block License plate taken from parked vehicle.
Little River Turnpike, 6700 Block Two televisions taken from business.
Mendota Place, 7600 Block Lug nuts taken from parked vehicle.
Montgomery Street, 5200 Block Toolbox taken from residence.
Skyles Way, 7000 Block Stereo taken from parked vehicle.
Springfield Plaza, 6300 Block Jewelry taken from business.
