CONTINUED SUPPORT OF RECENTLY WOUNDED VETERANS

The Bethesda Naval Hospital continues to need assistance in providing. The hospital needs new white tee-shirts, new elastic waist gym shorts and rechargeable phone cards that can be distributed to the wounded veterans. Toiletry items are also in short supply (toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, sanitary supplies, razors, shaving cream, and electric razors). Also if you have any new (recent) magazines, books, VHS videos or DVDs you no longer want they would likewise be appreciated. All of these donations can be dropped off at the Franconia District Station, in care of the CAC, which delivers them to a central distribution point. We ARE bringing some smiles to our returning heroes, and we ARE making a difference!

CAC:

The next CAC meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, October 20th, at the Franconia Government Center in the public meeting room. Mark your calendars and be sure to attend. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, pre-meeting social period begins at 7:00pm.

MODIP:

The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator’s Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next MODIP class is being held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on October 9, 2004, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. An additional classe will meet on November13, 2004. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.

ROBBERIES

Ashland Woods Lane, 9100 Block A 39-year-old man was robbed and stabbed in the Lorton area last Sunday. On September 19, around 11:00 p.m., an Arlington man was in the 9100 block of Ashland Woods Lane, when he was attacked by two Hispanic men and robbed of cash. The victim was stabbed in the upper body. The suspects were seen getting into a small black compact car. No further description of the suspects is available.

Richmond Highway, 9400 Block On Monday, September 20, around 7:30 p.m. a 40-year-old Lorton area man was robbed of his wallet and cash by four males believed to be in their late teens. The victim was walking on a path behind a 7-eleven store when he was punched to the ground by the perpetrators. There were no reported injuries. Three of the suspects were described as black, all between five feet seven inches tall and five feet nine inches tall. One was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, another was wearing a black baseball cap. The fourth suspect was described as Hispanic, however, a description could not be provided for him.

Barry Road, 7100 Block; A man was robbed at gunpoint in the Springfield area. On Tuesday, September 21, about 9:00 p.m. a 30-year-old Newington area man was walking east on Barry Road when he was confronted by a man who pointed a gun at him and announced a robbery. The suspect ordered the victim to lie on the ground. He went through the victim’s pockets and removed cash. He also took a watch off the victim’s wrist. No one was injured during this incident. The suspect was wearing a black mask, a gray sweatshirt, and black pants and shoes.
