PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT - FATALITY - DWI: A 40-year-old Springfield area man was killed as he walked along Commerce Street when a drunk driver lost control of his car. On Sunday, August 31, around 9:15 pm, Carlos Camacho, 32, was driving his Nissan west on Commerce Street. While trying to drive though a long curve near the Springfield Garden Apartments, Camacho lost control of his vehicle and drove onto the sidewalk. Luis Orellana-Portillo and Jose Cruz, 34, of the Springfield area, were struck by Camacho’s Nissan as they were walking on the sidewalk. Both pedestrians were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where Orellana-Portillo was pronounced dead. Cruz was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Camacho was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was held without bond.

ROBBERY

Springfield Plaza, 6400 Block: A man reached into the front pants pockets of a Springfield area man, 68, and took off with his wallet and keys. The incident occurred September 1, at about 3:00 a.m., as the victim walked into the CVS pharmacy. The suspect pushed the victim to the ground after taking his wallet and fled in a black two-door vehicle.
