National Night Out

National Night Out is a recurring annual event whereby the citizens of the USA take back the night from the criminal element. Endorsed by the Crime Prevention Association, it is a time for a show of hands, illuminating the volunteer spirit of community Neighborhood Watch units and other crime-fighting efforts.

The next National Night Out is August 5th. Any community that is planning to have a gathering or event should contact CPO Phil Edwards at the Franconia District Station, so the Police can stop by and participate. Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP)

The Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department will be offering Virginia residents 55 and older enrollment in the Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight hour class covers safe driving information for mature drivers. The course is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month.

The next MODIP class is being held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on Saturday, August 9, 2003, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703)924-6588. The fee for this course is $10 per person for books and materials.

ROBBERY

Reported by FCPD PIO on July 18 2003. No date or time of the felony was provided.

Kingstowne Boulevard, 5800 Block Detectives obtained warrants for a teenager who stole a 78-year-old woman’s purse right from her shoulder. The Alexandria area woman was getting into her car after shopping in the Wal-Mart, located at 5885 Kingstowne Boulevard in the Kingstowne area, when two teenagers approached her. The older of the two grabbed the woman’s purse from her. A ! lookout was given but the suspects were not immediately located; however, Stafford County Deputies caught the pair the next day and arrested them for two other robberies in their jurisdiction. 19-year-old Jerrell Williams, of 4519 West Braddock Road in the Alexandria area, now faces robbery charges in Fairfax County. Petitions for his 16-year-old accomplice were also obtained.

INDECENT EXPOSURE

Springfield Mall    A Springfield area woman, 20, was walking to her car in the parking lot of Springfield Mall when she noticed a dark blue older model car parked near her parked car. A man sitting in the car spoke to her as she walked by and, when she looked at him, he exposed himself. The man then drove away.
