Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP)

The Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department will be offering Virginia residents 55 and older enrollment in the Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour class covers safe driving information for mature drivers. The course is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month.

The next MODIP class is being held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on Saturday, June 14, 2003, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Subsequent seminars are scheduled for July 12 and August 9, 2003. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10 per person for books and materials.

The next meeting of the Franconia District Citizens Advisory Committee will be held at the Franconia District Station on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at 7:30pm. The Social period begins at 7:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there.


Patience Court, 6400 Block:   On Monday, May 26, a 46-year-old man walked into the Franconia District Station to report that his car had been stolen. The victim told police that while he was at home, a man brandishing a handgun, entered his home demanding money and car keys. The suspect then fled the area in one of the victim’s cars. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as black, 25 to 30 years old, six feet tall, weighing 185 pounds and wearing dark clothing with a white m! ask covering his face. The victim’s car, which was stolen by the suspect, is described as a white, 1997 Mitsubishi Galant, four-door with Virginia registration JBC-6767.


Telegraph Road, 7700 block
On Tuesday, May 27, an employee discovered several swastikas spray painted on the outside of First Virginia Bank. The graffiti occurred sometime between the afternoon of Saturday, May 24, and Tuesday morning.

Hayfield Secondary School, 7630
Telegraph Road On Monday May 26 at about 10:30 a.m., a Fairfax County Public School security officer discovered that someone had thrown a shaving cream can through a window of a door, breaking the window. Additionally, racially- and ethnically derogatory words were spray painted on the door and surrounding walls.

Hayfield Road, 7820 block
On Sunday, May 25at 11:00 a.m., employees of a community pool discovered that someone had thrown pool furniture into the pool and attempted to burn a roll of paper towels. Additionally, racially- and ethnically derogatory symbols were carved and drawn onto different items in the pool area.
