CAC:

The next CAC meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, May 18, 2005, at the Franconia Government Center in the public meeting room. Mark your calendars and be sure to attend. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, pre-meeting social period begins at 7:00pm.

MODIP:

The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator’s Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next seminars are scheduled at the Franconia District Station, located at 6121 Franconia Road, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 14, and June 11, 2005. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING

Backlick Road: Police are investigating a malicious wounding that took place Sunday, April 24 at 2 a.m. at Backlick Road and Commerce Streets. Two Springfield-area men engaged in an argument, when one man pulled out a knife. The suspect attempted to stab the man, but struck him in the leg as he attempted to get away. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital and was later released.

ROBBERY

Beulah Street: On Tuesday, April 26, at 8:45 p.m. an Alexandria-area man was robbed near a bus shelter on Franconia road at Beulah Street. A man in his early 20s approached the victim and asked him for money. When the victim said he had no cash, the man reached into the victim’s pocket and took his wallet. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction. The suspect is described as black, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a puffy black coat, baggy black pants and dark tennis shoes. The victim sustained no injuries.

VEHICLE TAMPERING

Norham Drive, 5900 Block: On Friday, April 22, at 8 a.m., police were called to check on several teenagers that were seen breaking into cars in the 5900 block of Norham Drive. The officers located the teenagers. In an attempt to flee, one of the juveniles knocked down a police officer. Petitions were obtained for the 15-year-old male for felony assault on a police officer, grand larceny, unlawful entry and two counts of vehicle tampering. He was held at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court appearance. Petitions were also obtained for the other teenager, a 17-year-old female, for unlawful entry and vehicle tampering. She was released to the custody of her father.
