Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP)

The Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department will be offering Virginia residents 55 and older enrollment in the Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour class covers safe driving information for mature drivers. The course is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month.

The next MODIP class is being held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on Saturday, April 12, 2003, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A subsequent seminar is scheduled for May 10, 2003. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10 per person for books and materials.

TRAFFIC SAFETY WATCH PROGRAM

FCPD has a way for citizens to assist in combating aggressive driving. If YOU observe an aggressive driving incident (or an unrestrained child in a vehicle), You can report the incident directly to FCPD. Although the driver will NOT receive a traffic citation, the registered owner of the vehicle will receive a letter informing her/him that the infraction was observed and reported. In many cases, the registered owners do not know their vehicles are being used unsafely and, upon being notified, take action to remedy the situation.

Information needed is: Tag # and State, type of vehicle, date, time, location, brief description of infraction and, if available, description of the driver.

To make a report, use the following link, which will take you directly to the online reporting form. Alternately, you can go to any FCPD district station and obtain a mailable Traffic Safety Watch form from the Crime Prevention / Community Policing Officer.

A link to this report form is also on the MyRoseHill.com homepage
Neighborhood Watch - Trafic Safety Report.

Note: Sometimes, trying to write the information while driving may be dangerous to your own safety. It is better to not report the incident than to have an accident. (some citizens carry tape recorders to save the information for reporting at a later time.)
