Our next regular CAC meeting will be held at the Franconia Government Center, 6121 Franconia Road, on Wednesday evening, March 15, 2006, in the Helen Wilson Community Room.  A Social Period begins at 7pm, and the General Meeting starts at 7:30pm.


The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator’s Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers.  Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are normally held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next seminars are scheduled at the Franconia District Station, located at 6121 Franconia Road, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.on March 11, 2006 and April 8, 2006.  Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.

Malicious Wounding

Dana Avenue, 6300 Block:  On Sunday, March 5 at approximately 12:20 a.m., four suspected gang members arrived at a party in the 6300 block of Dana Avenue. The men got into a dispute with a person at the party who is not believed to be a gang member. The group ended up outside of the home where the dispute turned into a physical fight. The person with whom the gang members argued produced a handgun and shot one of them several times in the midsection. The shooter fled and the victim was flown by the police helicopter unit to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries. Detectives from the Criminal Investigative Bureau assisted by detectives from the gang unit continue to investigate this case. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, between 31 and 33 years old, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and had a thin build. He was last seen wearing a blue and white cowboy shirt, white pants, a black cowboy hat and yellow cowboy boots.


Spring Village Drive, 7400 Block:  On November 3, around 6:12 p.m., a woman, 83, was parking her car in the 7400 block of Spring Village Drive, when she was confronted by a man. The suspect displayed a handgun and took the car keys from the victim. The suspect got in the victim’s car and drove off. The victim was uninjured. The victim’s car was later recovered a short distance away. An investigation by police led to the arrest of 18-year-old Vernon Cornish of 1715 H Street N.E. #3 in Washington, D.C.  Cornish was arrested on March 1 and has been charged with carjacking and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held in Washington, D.C. awaiting extradition.
