The fifth class of the FCPD Citizens Police Academy is forming. There are very few slots left, so, if any of you are interested in attending, contact the Franconia District Crime Prevention Office immediately for an application. This is a unique opportunity for citizens to get a "glimpse behind the badge" -- including visits to all major FCPD facilities, such as, helicopter operations, major crimes, forensics, tactical team, communications center, explosives ordinance unit, canine team, crash reconstruction, traffic operations, animal control and gang intervention. The first class will start on Thursday, March 11 and meet the following eight Thursday evenings from 630pm to 930 pm, with a final class at the driving and shooting range on Saturday, May 8 from 830am to 1230pm. To enhance the classes, attendees will experience a crime occurring. Course content parallels the subsequent police response as students learn about the volume of resources used to assist in preventing and solving crime. This learning format has been proven to be extremely beneficial to attendees. If you are interested in participating, act quickly. Call CPO Phil Edwards or Sheri Cooke at 703-922-8263.

Is your neighborhood safe? Do you feel it could be safer? If so, think about starting up a Neighborhood Watch in your community. It does not take a lot of time and effort to get one started and to keep it going. It will not only help reduce crime in your neighborhood but will increase awareness and communication between you and your neighbors. If you are interested in starting up a Neighborhood Watch in your community please call the Crime Prevention Office at (703) 922-8263 or email us at We will help get you started.

There is no Neighborhood Watch training class scheduled for the month of February. Future classes will be scheduled as needed. Please call or email the Crime Prevention Office if you are interested in attending a future class or if you have any questions.
