Our next regularly-scheduled meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in the Helen Wilson Community Room at 7:30 pm in the Franconia Governmental Center. A social period (7pm-7:30pm) precedes the meeting.

MODIP: 

The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers.  Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are normally held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next seminar is scheduled at the Franconia District Station, located at 6121 Franconia Road, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on March 10, 2007. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.

Woman Robbed of a Purse in the Lorton Area

Accotink Road, 8300 Block:  On Friday, February 2 at approximately 9:15 p.m. a man robbed a woman of her purse and stabbed a man. A 40-year-old Lorton-area woman pulled into her driveway in the 8300 block of Accotink Road. Her husband, a 47-year-old Lorton-area man, had just opened the garage door. The woman was exiting her car when a stranger grabbed her purse. The husband came running to assist. He was stabbed in the upper body with an unknown object by the suspect. The suspect ran toward Hamilton Road with the purse. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The suspect was described as a black man approximately 6 feet tall. He was wearing a black hat and black clothes.

Robbery at Springfield Hotel

Loisdale Court, 6500 Block:  On Wednesday, February 7 around 3:30 p.m., the Comfort Inn at 6560 Loisdale Court was robbed. A man entered the hotel and handed the 50-year-old Alexandria-area clerk a note announcing the robbery. The suspect was holding something under his shirt, implying he had a weapon. The clerk went to the back office to get the money, however the suspect fled with nothing. There were no injuries to the male clerk. The suspect was described as black, between 25 and 30 years old. He was 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 180 pounds. He wore a black hat, black jacket, black pants and white shoes.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING

Hershey Lane, 5500 Block:  A fight broke out at a party on the night of Sunday, February 4 in the 5500 block of Hershey Lane. Several people were fighting and two 19-year-old Annandale men were stabbed. They were both treated for non life-threatening injuries at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. There is no description of the suspects. The victims did not want to pursue charges in this incident.
