CAC:

The next CAC meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, January 19, 2005, at the Franconia Government Center in the public meeting room. Mark your calendars and be sure to attend. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, pre-meeting social period begins at 7:00pm.

MODIP:

The Fairfax County Police Department offers residents 55 years of age and older enrollment in the Mature Operator’s Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight-hour course, which provides safe driving information, is sanctioned by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and is presented by certified Fairfax County Auxiliary Police Officers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State-mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes are held the second Saturday of each month at the Franconia District Station. The next MODIP class will be held at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, January 8, 2005, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional classes are scheduled for February 12, and March 12, 2005. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the MODIP reservations line at (703) 924-6588. The fee for this course is $10.00 per person for books and materials.

HOMICIDE

Spring Mall Drive, 6700 Block Police are investigating the murder of a 25-year-old Camp Springs, Maryland man. On December 30, 2004 about 4:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting at 6711 Spring Mall Drive, in the Springfield area. Officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body inside a car parked near a fast food restaurant. The victim, James L. Ridley of 7715 Lanham Lane was dead at the scene. Investigation reveals Ridley was sitting in his parked 2002 Toyota Camry when he was shot after an apparent altercation inside the car. Witnesses describe a man leaving Ridley’s car after the shooting and getting into an older model white vehicle which drove away from the parking lot. The suspect seen fleeing the area is described as black, in his early to mid twenties. He had dread-locks and was seen wearing light colored clothing. The man is described between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall. He weighs between 185 to 200 pounds.
