RE: Lee District Park Master Plan

Dear Mr. Batten:
I was disappointed to read your letter of May 11, 2006 informing the Rose Hill Civic Association that you intend to move forward with the draft master plan document for Lee District Park as it was presented at the March 15 public hearing at Mark Twain Middle School. Regretfully, you have chosen to reward the requests of special interest groups and the recommendations of the park staff rather than listen to the concerns of the park’s neighbors.
Ironically, your comparison of Wakefield Park and Lee District Park only served to prove our point. As facilities and activities at Lee expand, the neighbors can expect increased traffic and noise. And, your comments about the use of the South Van Dorn Street extension as an access to the park seems out of focus. Why would one choose a route punctuated by numerous traffic lights when Rose Hill Drive is a straight shot to the park?
Our concerns are real. We do not feel the Park Authority and its staff adequately took them into account. We are in the process of posting all of the correspondence involving the revised master plan on our web site, www.myrosehill.com, so all of our citizens can be fully informed of our concerns and the Park Authority’s response.
