Greendale Golf Course

6700 Telegraph Road, 6,353 Yards, Par 70, 18-Hole

This 18-hole regulation course features 148 acres of rolling terrain with asphalt cart paths. The facilities include a practice putting green, modem clubhouse with food service, golfing supplies, and club and power cart rentals.

The course provides a challenging design with tight Bermuda fairways and several water hazards. The 17th hole offers a spectacular view of the entire course and surrounding area. Private golf lessons and group outing packages are also available. The course and clubhouse are accessible to people with disabilities.

Huntley Meadows Park

Huntley Meadows Park and Visitor Center, 3701 Lockheed Blvd., Alexandria, VA 22306, 703.768.2525

Fairfax County Park Authority's largest park (1,428 acres) includes wetlands, forests, meadows, streams and ponds. It has resident deer, beaver, heron, and other animals. Facilities include a visitor center, auditorium, exhibits, and an interpretive trail with boardwalk and observation platforms. Programs for groups by reservation. In January and February, the Visitor Center is open 9am-2pm, Monday, Wednesday-Friday; noon to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. The Visitor Center is closed Tuesday. Grounds open dawn to dusk.

  • Saturday, February 7, 1-3:30pm. Winter Tree Trek (16 yrs. & up). Learn to use "keys" and other tools to identify winter trees from such clues as shapes, twigs, and bark. Then explore the winter woods to practice your skills. Participants will receive a Tree Finder book. Sponsored by FOHMP. Reservations required. $5
  • Saturday, February 14, 1-3pm. Sherlock Bones. Skulls, skeletons, and self-guided activities will be set up in the classroom to bring out the Sherlock in you. FREE

Join historian Ron Chase as he reveals the amazing history of West Ford, founder of Gum Springs, and the birth of a community. FREE to FOHMP members and Huntley Meadows' volunteers.
